Welcome to SGPGIMS

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences has been established under the State Legislature Act in 1983 and is named after Sanjay Gandhi.It was created by the state of Uttar Pradesh as a centre of excellence for providing medical care, education and research of the highest order. The institute is situated in a 550 acres (2.2 square kilometres) campus at Raebareli Road, 15 km from the main city. Lucknow is located about 500km east of New Delhi and is the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow is famous for its Nawabi culture, Mughlai cuisine and intricate chikan work, a form of fine embroidery.

The Institute provides postgraduate training to medical and nonmedical professionals. The training programmes lead to D.M., M.Ch., M.D., Ph.D., postdoctoral fellowships, postdoctoral certificate Programmes in various disciplines. In addition, it offers senior residency training programmes. B.Sc. Nursing course and BSc / MSc paramedical technology Programmes in allied sciences are offered by the College of Medical Technology.The Institute is an autonomous body and awards degrees which are recognised by the Medical Council of India. The Institute functions as a State University and is member of the Association of Indian Universities and is recognised by University Grants Commission.

  • 30/03/2025: 4th Annual Symposium of Lucknow Orthopaedic Society was organized

    The symposium was organized with the objective of discussing recent advancements in the management of hip fractures, a prevalent injury affecting individuals across all age groups, from children to adults.

    The distinguished Chief Guest of the event, Professor Dr. R.K. Dhiman, Director SGPGI graced the occasion with his esteemed presence. He expressed commendation for the Department of Orthopaedics efforts in organizing the event and underscored the importance of precise and effective management of hip fractures.

    The department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, SGPGIMS, Lucknow organized 3rd SGPGI Pediatric Gastro Clinics 2025 along with 17thFoundation Day celebration

    Chief guest, Director Prof R.KDhiman attended the event and gave motivating speech

    Guest of Honor, Dr V.S. Sankaranarayanan, Professor, Institute of Child Health, Chennai gave an inspiring speech on the topic 'My Journey from sowing the seed of Pediatric Gastroenterology in India to harvest its fruits'.

  • Training course on the topic "Hypothesis Testing, Study Design and Sample Size Estimation" was organized by the Department of Biostatistics and Health Informatics from March 20-22, 2025

    Director Prof RK Dhiman advised to the department to increase the frequency of such training courses and organize similar courses on the topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

    Department head Prof. Uttam Singh said that this event will empower doctors and medical researchers especially in the field of clinical trials.

  • SGPGIMS Celebrates World Down Syndrome Day with utmost enthusiasm on March 21, 2025

    The department of Medical Genetics, SGPGIMS marked World Down Syndrome Day on 21st March with great enthusiasm, bringing together over 30 children with Down syndrome and their families for a day filled with awareness, activities, and celebrations.

    SGPGIMS Director, Padma Shree Professor R.K. Dhiman participated in the walk and addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and societal acceptance for individuals with Down syndrome.

  • Fostering Safety and Readiness: SGPGIMS College of Nursing's First Aid & Disaster Management Training (Mock drill - earthquake) on March 18, 2025

    The College of Nursing, successfully organized the event in collaboration with the UP State Disaster Management Authority (UPSDMA) & the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), UP.

    The Chief Guest Padma Shri Prof. R. K. Dhiman (Director, SGPGIMS), emphasizing the importance of disaster preparedness in healthcare settings.and the Guest of Honor Lt. Gen. Yogendra Dimri (Vice Chairperson, UPSDMA), emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness and response strategies.

  • An Awareness Walkathon was organized by the Department of Nephrology, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow and Aalamban Associate Charitable Trust, Lucknow on the occasion of World Kidney Day on 13th March

    Director Prof. R.K. Dhiman informed that we should try to have home-cooked food as it is healthy and hygienic. Dr. Narayan Prasad, Head of the Department of Nephrology told that diabetes, blood pressure, obesity are traditional risk factors, which are primary cause of CKD, but air pollution, pesticides and insecticides used by farmers are more dangerous. Recurrent dehydration is also one of the cause of CKD.
